I just want to comment on reviews mentioning bus loads of locals partying and making thinks crazy and distasteful on the weekends. Why were these reviews deleted after the Sheila Nabb assault?
These were seen as legitimate reviews before the beating. Why has Escapes censored them now? Have you no responsibility to inform your clients?

You get what you pay for here...
5* for so cheap? You may say to yourself... Let me tell you, this RIU is not a 5*, closer to 3*.
Plus:
-all rooms have an ocean view (don't fall for the "we'll give you a fre upgrade to an ocean view room" BS that the agent may give you.)
-The beach is fantastic
-great waves for body boarding
-in room bar<...
We are a family of four (2 boys 10 & 15) who stayed 1 week at the RIU Emerald Bay. This was our 13th all inclusive in Mexico but first at a RIU. For a 5-star rated hotel, we were very disappointed. Some of the 3-star resorts we've stayed at were much better. Knowing the property had just opened two months prior, we expected some shortfalls but not to this degree. I'll start with a positive - the r...

Hotel Staff gave great customer service, everyone was friendly. Food was disappointing, didn't seem like the food was fresh, had to go out of the resort to get good food. Entertainment is okay. Overall I wouldn't have rated this a 5 star.

This hotel was opened in May 2009. It follows the typical Riu hotel formula. It is located on a wonderful beach with a golden sandy beach which is groomed every night. The slope into the ocean is gradual and the only impediment to a great time in the ocean that sometimes occurs is high surf and breakers (it is on open Pacific Ocean).
There are two pools adjacent to each other, and ...
Was very nice, but the elevators- request a lower floor unless you want to spend all day waiting or going up and down on elevators. Sometimes they worked, sometimes you find people trapped in them....
Food good waiting in line in the morning to make reservations a pain, beach excellent. They just opened and they are lacking on the cleaning.
We got a really good deal that is why we we...

We have stayed at many "all Inclusive resorts" throughout Mexico and this was a little above average. The Riu is brand new and very nice. The grounds were well kept and just need to grow in a bit. The hotel was very clean and service was good. If you get to know some of the staff and tip you will have a better time in any resort! We have to mention some of the bar staff as they were very ent...

First time in Mexico, beautiful resort, beach more suited to surfers--huge waves, rough waters. Great pools--some premium brands available for drinks, buffet food is good, a la carte food is average. Do not be afraid to venture into town, the local bus passes in front of the resort, hotel security will gladly flag one down for you---overall a good vacation, would recommend.

Over all a great vacation, here are what I thought some pros and cons of the resort.
The weekday was very quiet about 30% full and mainly Canadian. As the weekend approaches, it gets fuller and by the weekend it is at full capacity with about 45% Canadians and 45% Mexicans, very few Americans. There are only six elevators and are quite small. The sign says capacity is 10 people, I think it ...

A nice building, with excellent housekeeping. Right on the beach so good views from our room. I asked for a high floor and was pleased as it was quiet and not as busy as the lower floors seemed to be. The food was maybe 3 star. The hotel ran specials for the Mexican population on weekends but were unable to handle the extra people. The main breakfast buffet restaurant closed one morning because it...
Well, first off I am a very open person when it comes to travel, and I don't complain easily. If it gets me away from home, somewhere to relax and enjoy some great weather and possibly some fun outings I am all for it. The Riu is a brand new hotel and really there are no complaints. It was beautiful. I have to say though it was no better than many of the 4 or 4+ star resorts that we have stayed at,...

Hotel is excellent with nice rooms and spectacular ocean views from every room - don't pay extra for the ocean view!!!. Service is also excellent. Rooms, lobby, pool area are always clean. There are several bars open during day and night time, and additional drink service around the pools and on the beach. Food is good variety with enough choices for North Americans and Mexicans. During our stay -...

Location wasn't ideal, 45 mins from Mazatlan and 1hr from airport. Huge hotel therefore wonderful choice of food, excellent quality and service. Only downfall was the weak and tasteless coffee. Entertainment was okay but strange to have 'Grease' twice in the same week. Live Latin band after evening shows was great for dancing. This is not a quiet little resort, lots of fun if you can go with a gro...

Had another excellent time at this resort- everything went very smoothly with all travel thanks to Eric. I must say upgrade to high floor ocean is the only way to see the amazing sunset and rises. Thanks Escapes for another great vacation all 21 had a fab time. Renewal of vows perfecto with family!!

This is our third Riu (two others in Dominican Republic). Big, clean rooms and obviously everything is new. Amazing oceanview from every room (especially sunsets). Beautiful clean beach, fine brown sand and great waves to boogey board in. Service is excellent. Food at the buffets and a la cartes are all very good. Landscaping will be nicer when matured. Good location 10 minutes from downtown Mazat...

We visited the Riu Emerald Bay the week of September 7th for 1 week. The hotel is beautiful, with large pools, very clean, fantastic beach, however no swimming due to currents. Food was good, Asian was the best of all. They were expecting 1000 people arriving the Sunday and it was a zoo. Remember it is a large hotel with over 700 rooms. Views from all rooms are Ocean Views. We would visit again in...
We always enjoy the Riu resorts. In this one we had excellent service, we thought the food was really good, our room looked out over the ocean and was very spacious, and modern. The weather was perfect......the surf was high, the undertow was strong and a couple of people got in trouble in the water, but we played in the big waves and really enjoyed it. The jelly fish were around and we heard of p...

We just spent the first week in June 2010 at the Riu in Mazatlan and we loved it. The weather was amazing, there were undertows and jellyfish but we swam in the ocean every day and we loved playing in the waves. The jellyfish didn't bother us but there were people being stung almost every day. The locals tell us May-Sept the jellyfish come and go. The food was excellent for the most part, but we f...

The Riu was excellent - From service to food to hotel to room. The people were professional, very service oriented. The buffet dinners were excellent! The food cooked just right every time. The alacart dinners were very good as well. The staffs were very efficient, polite and friendly. Highly recommended!
All I can say is 100%%%%%% loved everything about it- There was 18 of us who went and not one complaint. We stayed in one of the suite- a must. The view is out of this world, people so friendly- food excellent and the elevators we had not one problem. This is a 5 star resort and would go back in a heart beat. Reservations no problem they even got us reservations for 18 of us for 2 nights they brou...

This property is fantastic! Ignore what others say about this hotel, it was our 2nd visit and better than the first. Yes, sometimes we maybe had to wait twice for the elevator, but you are on vacation and not in a rush. The strip mall down the beach has the best coffee, couple from California own it. Mr. Lionos Coconut Shrimp is the best! Beaches here are awesome, almost like walking on pavem...

Stayed week of June 13, 2011 - spectacular resort! New (2009), clean, beautiful inside and out, great staff and service, amazing variety and quality of food in buffet. Ate a la carte only one night as buffet was so good. Steakhouse meal was delicious and service was great (even though we arrived late). Lots of chairs around pools and beach. Pools maintained extremely well. Beach is wide and long, ...
