For me Puerto Viejo just wasn't doing it. For one, it didn't feel safe when you see signs warning you not to walk alone day or night. The town its self didn't seem like anything special, it has a few restaurants and souvenir shops but is not very nice and the beach is pretty ugly. The beach 500 meters down the road however was very nice and had some good waves for body surfing, boogie boarding and... |

A lot closer to the most boring city in the world than the most exciting. If you are heading on a trip to Costa Rica, 1 or 2 days in probably more than enough time you'll need. I stayed at the Hotel Rincon de San Jose which was fairly nice and seemed to be in a pretty good area. The restaurant across the street from the hotel was very nice. One day should do it to check out a few of the local site... |

Just got back from a 16 day GAP Adventures tour in Costa Rica where we check out a lot of the country's popular destinations... Puerto Viejo, Tortuguero, Arenal Volcano, Monteverde, Rara Avis, Quepos and Manuel Antonio. Our trip to this little scenic fishing village went without a hitch. Be prepared for a 2 hour bus ride from the airport to the hotel, its a good way to see the Cuban countryside. The accommodations are not ultra fancy or new but they are clean and more than adequate resulting in comfortable vacation. The hotel offers a good variety of foods, mostly fresh foods, made me think of home cooked meals. ... |
